School holidays Malaga 2023 / 2024.
Malaga is located in the autonomous community of Andalusia in Spain. The students and schoolchildren have a summer vacation that lasts about three months, from June to September. Some children love being free for so long, but experts say long vacations can have a negative effect on the learning process. Studies show that long breaks from school are not good, because students lose their routine and forget what they have learned. Many parents would like the school system to change so that there is a shorter vacation after each trimester to rest the students and distribute the school calendar more evenly throughout the year.
Some parents have to take extra days off to look after their children, or they have to hand over care to the grandparents.
The exact dates of the summer holidays vary by region, but in Malaga the holiday starts at the end of June and ends in September. Experts advocate shortening the holiday period and adapting the Spanish school system to the holiday periods in other European countries.
Why do holidays in Malaga take so long?
Why do the holidays last so long? It used to be difficult to go to school because of the high summer temperatures, but nowadays most schools have air conditioning. However, some schools are not well prepared for hot weather, and cannot provide cooling.
In addition, the long holidays used to fit better with the agricultural calendar, in which children had to help on the land. Although this is no longer the case today, the Spanish school system has not changed much.

Día de Andalucía
February 28 is the Día de Andalucía throughout Andalusia, a regional or autonomous holiday in Spain’s most populous autonomous state. This day is celebrated because in the year 1980 a referendum was held in this region on the autonomy of the state in which this was won (except in the province of Almería). On that (free) day there are many official meetings but also many green and white colors of the flag of Andalusia that can be proudly seen in the villages and cities.
